Sunshine Blogger Award – Sunshine on a Rainy Day

It’s winter, and in Victoria that often means rain.  Since the little bit of Christmas snow that fell melted, it’s been a pretty steady downpour of rain. And when it rains around here, it’s rare to see any sunshine.  But, not so for me 🙂 .  I’m so pleased to announce that I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Angel Lou at Strong Heart.

As a new blogger, I feel very honoured to be recognized. Thank-you so much Angel.  Angel is an Environmental Science graduate and advocate who blogs about her daily life – sharing her insights and experiences.  Make sure you check out her blog.  It’s a fun and inspiring read with some thought provoking topics, such as this one: Religion. Does it matter when applying for a job?

What is the Sunshine Blogger Award?

The Sunshine Blogger award is given by bloggers to bloggers who inspire positivity and creativity in the blogging community.

My Sunshine Blogger Award Questions from Angel:

  1. What inspires your blogging?

I get my blogging inspiration from my life. I have a lot of “chaos,” and I pull from that.  Between my twins, my chronic illness and my ongoing battle to quit sugar, I’ve got tons of potential content!

  1. Do you blog because you can earn money from it or just a habit?

Currently, I blog for fun.  I have the secret hope that someday I’ll be able to monetize my blog, but for now it’s a way to express my LOVE of writing.

  1. Do you honestly read the blogs from people you follow?

I read as many of the blog postings as I can, and I wish I could read them all.  But, to be honest, life gets away from me and they start to stack up in my inbox, until I get a chance to curl up on my couch and catch up.

  1. Was there a time that you didn’t know what else to write on your blog?

I’m still pretty new to the blogging scene, so I still have a lot of ideas running around in my head.  However, sometimes when I sit down to write, I just can’t think of anything to say.  I usually get past this pretty quick because I not only LOVE to write but I’m also kind of talkative, which feeds into my writing very nicely 🙂 .

  1. Do you believe in reincarnation?

I’m not sure my exact thoughts on reincarnation – there are elements of life that suggest to me that it’s real, but there are also parts that I just can’t reason out.  I do, however, believe in Karma.  It’s important to take care with our actions, as all things in the natural world are connected and the energy we give out will come back to us.  It’s best to do no harm.

  1. Would you like to visit Mindanao regardless of the warning that there are terrorists here?

There was a time when I was a much more adventurous soul, and I wouldn’t have worried about terrorists.  But, as I’ve grown older and taken on more responsibility (husband and kids), I’ve gotten more cautious.  Plus, I’ve also learned that I have to be careful about the things I choose to do, so that I don’t feed into my anxiety disorder.  I would LOVE to visit Mindanao.  The pictures I’ve seen are so stunning, but I think I would have to take a pass until there was less unrest.

  1. If you were a scientist, who would you like to be?

Science has never been my favourite (even though I married a scientist – I do LOVE him), but if I had to choose, I would, like you, choose to do something in the environmental sciences.   Our planet definitely needs a helping hand, if we’re going to survive climate change.  Either that or something in Astrobiology, so that I could use those really cool, giant telescopes they have at the edge of a volcano in Hawaii!!

  1. What can you say about people who wait patiently?

The first thing that springs to mind is: “Good things come to those who wait.”  But, that feels a little cliché.  I think that people who are able to wait patiently probably have a better handle on being mindful and in the moment than me.  I’m always so focused on the outcome that I often miss the process.  It’s something I’m working on – learning to enjoy the journey. I was particularly inspired in this by Stephanie’s words over at Citrus & Sun.

  1. Who came first, egg or chicken? Hahaha

A really good question 🙂 . Time to get philosophical 😉 .  I’m firmly in the chicken came first camp! Although the egg is much more tasty!!

  1. Where do you want to be 5 years from now?

Five years from now, I would like to be able to live off the proceeds of my writing.  My biggest goal is to become a published author (I’m almost finished editing my first romance novel and have dozens of other novels in a variety of genres in varying stages of completion).  If I could be living on a tropical beach while I write my blog and novels that would be the icing on the cake!

  1. How many times a week do you post a blog?

I started out posting twice a week, but I was finding that it was too much to manage with all of my other responsibilities, so I dropped it down to once a week. (I wrote a blog post about it). I’m hoping that as I get my health under control, I’ll be able to get back to twice a week.

Blogging is a pretty solitary pursuit, so it’s really special when you get a nod from the community that you’re doing a good job (and that someone is reading your stuff – we bloggers tend to like that 😉 ).

As I write, the clouds are clearing and the rain has abated – maybe a little Sunshine was all that was needed to make the gray skies blue again.

Take care 🙂

    1. It was my pleasure to nominate you. I really enjoy reading your blog. I’m not fully an introvert, but I have some social anxieties, so your tips are helpful for me too :-).

  1. Found this on the “Community of Bloggers Board” lol. Congrats on the award! I’m with you on the reincarnation thing – I’m honestly not sure. I additionally like to blog for fun, but I imagine a future one day that I’ll start making money from it.

    1. Thanks so much Jo. I was pretty pleased to be nominated! I guess this means yhe board works eh? 😉 I’ve been reading about monetizing options, but don’t know what would be the best fit for my blog PLUS how do I know when I have enough readership to take the plunge?

      1. Hm I guess it depends on you. I would start making money when you have about 10,000 views a month, but that’s just my personal preference. It’s really not how much followers you have, it’s the readers. For example I’ve seen blogs with thousands of followers but like one or two comments on their posts. The more readers you have, the more potential money you can generate, I think.

        1. Thanks for the tips – I agree that I need quite a few more page views before it really makes sense. It’s all so complicated!. Take care 🙂

    1. Thanks 🙂 . I hope you enjoy the process of learning about blogging. It can be really overwhelming – but just keep remembering why you started, and don’t worry to much about the details – they’ll come!
